Xbox 360 Leads the way in Game Exclusivity

 

Siliconera has taken a look at all the exclusive titles for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii respectively. The Xbox 360 leads the way with 48 exclusive titles, followed by the PS3 at 35 and the Wii has 38. Microsoft are really working hard too being the largest first party publisher with 23 games especially designed the their console system.

There are 48 Xbox 360 exclusives with the consoleʼs one year head start. 23 of the exclusives are published by Microsoft Game Studios, the remaining games are spread over fifteen different companies. Fourteen of those titles are currently on the market, which means the bulk of the games are still in development. Why is the number so low? Some of the popular titles on the X360 like Call of Duty 2 are also PC games due to the ease of releasing games on multiple platforms. Even though the Xbox 360 doesnʼt have exclusivity on franchise games like the Godfather and NBA Live 07, the 360 versions typically look better than their current generation counterparts.

 

Meanwhile Sony only has eighteen titles developed internally and 35 titles exclusive to the Playstation 3. They lost out on exclusivity to Assassinʼs Creed, BioShock and the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Losing Grand Theft Auto is a dent in Sonyʼs line up, but Sony managed to snag console exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls series and F.E.A.R. away from Microsoft. While Sony was once the reigning champion of third party support, but as of now only nine companies are developing exclusive titles for the Playstation 3 and one of those companies is technically a division, Sony Online Entertainment. Speaking of Sony Online Entertainment they are making an online game based on the DC Universe and Microsoft is making an online game based on the Marvel Universe. Competition much?

Xbox 360 Cracks Japan: Blue Dragon 360 SE Bundles Sell Out

Ladies and gentlemen, you might want to sit down; the Xbox 360 has sold out In Japan. Well, the special-edition Blue Dragon bundles have, anyway.

 

Pre-orders began yesterday for the SE bundle, of which there are 10,000 units, and it miraculously managed to sell out in Japan almost immediately, with the additional 90,000 'standard' bundles reportedly selling fast.

 

According to 1up.com, one major online retailer managed to sell out of their SE allotment in five minutes, with others managing to last most of the day.

Microsoft to Design Its Own Chips, Xbox 360 Successor Already in the Works

 

Both Peter Moore, corporate VP of the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft, and Chris Lewis, the Regional VP of Xbox Europe, confirmed in an interview with Kikizo that the software giant is already working on the successor to the Xbox 360.

 

"As soon as you develop something, it's old", Lewis told Kikizo: "Of course we're thinking about that... we're constantly thinking about the next thing, we have to. It's my point about complacency - you can't sit back on your laurels in this business - the consumer won't let you, the developers certainly won't let us. So that's happening right now."

 

While these two Xbox executives confirm that development on the next Xbox has started, the New York Times reports in todayʼs edition that Microsoft plans to design its own processors at its Silicon Valley campus. The newspaper informs:

 

The design effort will initially be split between research labs at the companyʼs headquarters in Redmond, Wash., and its Silicon Valley campus here. Tentatively named the Computer Architecture Group, the project underscores sweeping changes in the industry.

 

One reason for the effort is that Microsoft needs to begin thinking about the next-generation design of its Xbox game console, said Charles P. Thacker, a veteran engineer and Microsoft engineer who will head the Silicon Valley group. Voice recognition may also be an area where the research could play a significant role.

 

 

Could this mean that the next Xbox would be powered by a Microsoft-designed CPU? Not necessarily, but thereʼs certainly a trend in the evolution of the Xbox platform.

 

From 2001ʼs Xbox, which used standard off-the-shelve parts provided by Intel and nVIDIA, to the Xbox 360, which made use of custom silicon designed by IBM and ATI for Microsoft, it is highly probable that the Xbox 360 successor will feature a higher level of custom hardware to set the console apart from a personal computer. Europe: PES6 and FIFA07 Xbox 360 Bundles Next Week

Konami and Microsoft are teaming up on a Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Xbox 360 premium hardware bundle, due out on 27th October priced 299GBP (~445EUR) (normal price Premium Xbox360 with no games: 280GBP/399EUR).

It's going to be sold in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Nordics, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal and Greece.

 

Microsoft has arranged a similar exclusivity deal for FIFA 07, which is due for release on Xbox 360 on the same day.
