360 Getting Keys to Hellgate?

Namco Bandai is apparently looking to port its PC MMO shooter to Microsoft's beast.

When Hellgate: London launches on PCs this summer, it looks to meld online RPGs with first-person shooting action. Now comes word that curious Xbox 360 owners may get their own chance to see how this unlikely marriage turns out.

In an interview with Next Generation, Zach Karlsson, Namco Bandai's new business development director, reveals that a port to the 360 is on the company's to-do-list. While not set in stone, Karlsson also talks about how the company is focusing on multiplayer and online gaming, and mentions the ease of portability between the PC and Xbox 360.

"One of the areas I'm looking to focus on is both multiplayer and online gaming," Karlsson says. "With the convergence of platforms into the online and PC space, we're really looking to start driving into that arena.

"Online is a very big console characteristic now so we're really looking at what multi-player games we bring to the space as well. With the Xbox 360 and the ease of portability between the PC and Xbox 360 as well as the platform of the PS3, it really makes sense for us to really look at online as a platform rather than looking at individual consoles by themselves, in a bubble."

Massively Multiplayer Online games like Hellgate have thus far been the dominion of PCs, so it would be interesting to see how the genre would work on consoles. With Microsoft's Live Anywhere service, though, it is certainly possible now for 360 owners to play games alongside PC players.
