No Gears of War 2 at E3

 

Epic Games has said that a sequel to Gears of War will not be unveiled at E3.

 

 

Rumours have been floating around in the last couple of days that a trailer for a second Gears game will be among Microsoft's big reveals during its press conference - taking place close to Santa Monica's E3 Media & Business Summit next month.

 

Epic's Mark Rein disagrees. "We are not announcing a sequel to Gears of War at E3 this year," he told Beyond Unreal. "Did you see the update we just did for Gears of War last week? We're still working on the first one."

Microsoft Invests in Chinese Developer

 

Microsoft has purchased 15 million shares in Sichuan, China-based Changhong Electric Co., valued at 94 million yuan (about US $12 million). That's just one percent off the company, according to the Taipei Times.

 

Said Microsoft spokesman in Beijing Roger Chen, the two companies will explore "a wide range of scenarios for digital entertainment needs ... The project focuses on in-home network digital entertainment -- how to connect PCs, TVs and the Internet to provide this digital entertainment experience."

 

The first thought that comes to our mind is the Xbox 360, Microsoft's most prominent living room entertainment device, and potentially is related to their IPTV service. No concrete details have been given about the project, so consider this all speculation at the moment.

"Euro 360 sales have hit a wall" - Screen Digest

 

Sales of the Xbox 360 in Europe have hit a wall according to a new report from Screen Digest, which suggests Microsoft is struggling to expand the user base for the next-gen console.

 

The report also observes that the Nintendo Wii is dividing the market, with some publishers happy to ride Nintendo's coat tails to pick up business with poor quality titles, while others are betting the farm on the innovative machine.

 

"For Xbox 360, European hardware sales seem to have hit a wall. The target market is still too focused on adult males and the brand does not enjoy the same cachet in non-Anglo Saxon markets as it does in the US and, to a lesser extent, the UK," reads the report.

 

While there are no concerns about appealing to a dedicated gaming audience, "failing to break out of a small number of genres and thereby appealing to groups outside of hardcore gamer," is a bigger problem according to Screen Digest.

 

Despite these issues the report does highlight that some of the most anticipated titles for the coming Q4 are for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is described as a "beacon of hope".

Angry forum members of the official Guitar Hero forums have been asking the question on when downloadable content will be making its way to Xbox 360 for the smash hit Guitar Hero II. Well a forum administrator today let slip some info that it's not that far away actually. Details have obviously not been announced but keep watching we'll let you know about any updates.

This is what Rodth (Community Manager) had to say in the forums.

Pre-E3 2007: Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation Preview (Xbox 360)

 

Finally, Namco Bandai will launch a customized flight stick to go with the game. The Ace-Edge is a two-piece controller thatʼll enable the armchair pilot to micromanage the planeʼs controls. Though the separate cost of the controller hasnʼt been announced at this point, Namco Bandai did state that a bundle containing the Ace Combat 6 game and Ace-Edge controller will retail for about $150.

 

Weʼre expecting E3 (which comes the second week of July) to offer us a deeper look into Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, and when we do weʼll bring it to you. Additionally, Namco Bandai stated that itʼs expecting to release a demo via Xbox Live Marketplace, so youʼll have a better chance to see this game in action.
