Halo 3 Pre-orders 1 mln Strong

 

Halo 3 pre-orders have surpassed the 1 million mark, as major brands like Mountain Dew, Pontiac and Burger King jump on board with promotional activities.

 

Microsoft said Thursday that the milestone is an all-time record for videogame pre-orders.

 

The game is set to release in three different packages on September 25 for Xbox 360. Microsoft said the $130 Legendary Edition package will likely be sold out by the time the game launches.

 

“This September, Halo 3 will push video game entertainment into the forefront of mainstream culture,” said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Microsoft.

 

Microsoft has been insistent in comparing the launch of Halo 3 to not just the launches of other games, but of all entertainment products.

 

Microsoft appears to be backing such gigantic hype with deals with major brands. Mountain Dew will be releasing a Halo 3 co-branded drink called Mountain Dew Game Fuel beginning next week (“Game Fuel has the same great taste of Mountain Dew with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor and added caffeine for maximum intensity”!).

 

7-Eleven will be doing in-store promotions, such as offering three Halo 3-branded Slurpee cups, the aforementioned Game Fuel drink, a Halo 3 Doritos promotion and prizes based on the game. Gamers will also have a chance to become a voice actor in the upcoming Halo Wars real-time strategy game from Ensemble.

 

Pontiac will be holding an event called Gamers Garage to give gamers a pre-release chance to play the game, as well as offering 1,000 consumers with a copy of Halo 3 and one with a Halo 3-themed G6 GXP Street car.

 

Burger King will be featuring Halo 3-themed packaging with links to http://www.bk.com/halo3, which will go live September 23.

 

Comcast is in on the Halo 3 promotional action as well, as its gameinvasion.net and ziddio.com websites will host Halo 3 videos and user-generated movies. The company will also offer videos via its Comcast On Demand service.

 

Finally, Halo 3 is the official sponsor of the Projekt Revolution rock tour.

The PS3 difference in 1UP's Madden 08 Review: 8.5 for PS3 Vs 9 for 360

 

From the The PS3 difference part of review near the end:

"Sadly, just like with NCAA Football 08 and All-Pro Football 2K8, PS3 owners are stuck with an inferior version of Madden. While the game runs at 60 frames per second on Microsoft's box, Madden only clocks in at 30fps on Sony's console. The result? The gameplay isn't nearly as smooth as the 360 version and even stutters at times."
