Lund University generally provides health insurance coverage for its incoming international students, including Erasmus+ students. This is a crucial aspect of your stay, so it's good you're asking!

Here's a breakdown of how it works:

 * Student IN Insurance: For incoming exchange students (like Erasmus+ students) who come to Lund University via a valid exchange agreement, you are typically covered by a group insurance called Student IN from Kammarkollegiet (the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency).

   * Coverage: This insurance generally provides 24/7 coverage within Sweden and includes:

     * Emergency medical and dental care.

     * Costs for home transport (repatriation) in case of serious illness or accident.

     * Personal liability cover (if someone demands compensation for damages from you).

     * Legal expenses cover.

     * Property cover (for your belongings, typically only in Sweden).

   * Limitations:

     * It primarily covers acute illness and accidents. It's important to note that it does not cover routine or planned medical care.

     * There may be a deductible; for example, from July 1st, only patient fees exceeding SEK 400 per visit might be reimbursed.

     * High-risk activities (deep-sea diving, mountain climbing, etc.) are generally not covered.

   * Claim Process: You'll typically pay for the medical care upfront, save the original receipts, and then fill out a claim form to be reimbursed by the insurance company.

 * European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens:

   * If you are an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, you should always bring your EHIC card from your home country.

   * The EHIC gives you access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare in Sweden under the same conditions and at the same cost as Swedish citizens. This means you will pay the standard Swedish patient fees directly when you use your EHIC.

   * While the EHIC is essential, the Student IN insurance provides additional coverage (like liability and property) that the EHIC does not. So, you benefit from having both.

 * Personal Injury Insurance: All students at Lund University are also automatically covered by a separate accident insurance during scheduled school hours and travel between your home address in Sweden and the University. This is distinct from Student IN/FAS+.

Important Considerations:

 * Registration: If your stay in Sweden is shorter than 12 months, you generally won't be able to get a Swedish personal identity number (personnummer), which means you won't be fully covered by the Swedish social security system for all types of healthcare. In these cases, the university's Student IN insurance (and your EHIC if applicable) is your primary coverage for healthcare.

 * Duration of Coverage: The university's insurance typically applies from two weeks before the start of your studies to two weeks after the conclusion of your studies, including direct travel to and from Sweden.

 * Additional Insurance: While the university's provided insurance is good, depending on your personal needs and the scope of activities you plan to undertake, you might consider taking out additional private travel insurance for broader coverage, especially for non-emergency medical needs, pre-existing conditions, or if you plan to travel outside Sweden extensively.

 * Confirmation: Always confirm the exact details of your insurance coverage with the International Office at Lund University and your home university's Erasmus+ coordinator.

In summary, Lund University does offer a health insurance policy (Student IN) for incoming exchange students, which covers emergency medical care, accidents, and other situations. If you are an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, you should also bring your EHIC.

Ναι τα είδα αυτά! Απλώς αναφέρεται από όσο καταλαβαίνω σε κάποιον που ακόμα σπουδάζει. Δε ξέρω δηλαδή αν ισχύουν και για πρόσφατα αποφοίτους.

Student IN or FAS+ insurance

The type of insurance you get through Lund University, Student IN or FAS+, depends on whether you are a EU/EEA citizen or not and what type of study agreement you have. You will normally get Student IN if you are:

an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen

When Student IN and FAS+ apply Student IN and FAS+ are valid from two weeks before the start of your studies until two weeks after the end of your studies. This includes Orientation Weeks and final exams. Check the exact dates in your Letter of Acceptance or Notification of Admission Results. During this period, the insurance applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in Sweden.
