Sorry paidia pou to postarw sta agglika alla mou phre 30 + lepta na to grapsw

Hi All,

First of all i am warning you this is the most bizzare problem i

have ever faced in my life. I am not a noob with pc's . So here

we go...

I Recently spent over 1000 euro to build up a new server to

replace my old Athlon 1.7xp.

The New Server specs are :

Intel P4 3.2Ghz HT

Asus p5ad2-e-premium (925e-x) http://uk.asus.com/products/mb/socket775/p5ad2-e-p/overview.htm

2x512 Dual DDR 2 Kingston

W.D Raptor 37.5 Gb

Windows XP

PSU : 450W Thermaltake

So as u can see I have created a small monster, passed

all my tests (gaming 20/24) for 2 weeks, being on 24/24.

Didn't have the slightest problem.

BUT , cause there is always a butt ;) , a problem has appeared...

I Have This Server Running Call of duty (server) and an http

server. The First Hours All were smooth ...

But after couple of hours, around 22:10 the pc stopped responding...

Next Day I went to check it, i didn't came up with a frozen pc,

instead the server was fine , and all programs were

running, except a small detail... NO DATA exchange at all...

I opened a url, no page came up , like the pc was unplugged from

the switch!

I runned an ipconfig (ip static and settings same with The old

server) and all were ok. So I Disabled The Local Area Connection

(From the icon) and re-enabled it within 3-5 seconds. All were

normal again, net on , clients connecting normally etc. etc.

I said to myself what the heck , maybe it was a random winxp

problem and didn't paid much attention.

But The next day around 22:15 (Again) I had the same nightmare...

Same problem, tracert stopped at last hop = the problem was

the server it self, cause the 2nd pc next to it (same Switch) was

responding fine. Next Morning I go again to the server, updating

windows with 3 more patches, changed DNS , searched for new

drivers for the on-board NIC but with no luck. The drivers are the

latest and they are certified... So I Disable and re-enable the

icon-LAN and then did the above actions.

Next day i was having a worry for the server , the clock was

22:00 and i was waiting for the moment the server would stop

responding again , but nothing happened... all went fine and i

thanked god for it... I convinced my self it was a slight silly problem

that i have been facing lots of that in my life and that it dissapeard

with the 3 updates or the DNS i changed couple hours ago...

I was wrong. Today Same time again 22:10 as i was uploading

a large file to the server it stopped responding... i was sure

the same problem happened again... i just didn't want to believe

it cause i have never ever seen something like this before...

The other pc on the same switch with the server is online.

The ISP has no problem... and only my server once more stopped

responding...

This Is My Story, I Have not tried everything, I am planning in

activating the 2nd onboard nic and plug it in the router too , so

i can test if both IP's/connections stop respond ... if not it will be

a NIC problem , (i also must install a new PCI NIC) but I don't

like this version, I Payed 320 euro for this Asus Motherboard

and i hardly believe it is a NIC problem. NIC's aint VGA adapters

which gets high temperatures etc.

Then What the hell should it be? A WinXP problem? Or a Setting

that worked for WinMe (previous O/S on the previous Server)

or a bug in windows and 925x-e chipset ? Drivers? I am really

dissapointed. I Don't give up, I'm not a quiter, but I've never

seen anything like this before , and i want to fix it at any cost.

Answers By Experts please or anyone else having such a problem.

More Info that Might Help:

Connection is : Straight UTP to the Router of My University 1Gbit

(My port is at 100Mbit) ;) Yeah, i know , i am a lucky bastard :P

Static IP etc. PC Temperatures Awesome, Server works fine as

a PC, it's a Network Hardware/Software bug/problem... but what?

*** Update ***

The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted...

That's what i got today in the event viewer. I Have activated

Both onboard NICS, so it happened, the pc LAN no1 stopped

responding but No2 would carry on without a problem ,

so i accessed the pc, the 1st nic icons were there intact, so i

re-enabled them and all went back to opperational...

I have also noticed that Lan No2 Had DHCP given while No1...

didn't, i saw that through Everest Software.

Any Suggestions?
