The charger of a Nokia phone gives 12v DC maximum, current-limited to 700mA. This is supplied to the phone, which checks the battery capacity (reading a labelling resistor build into the battery) and temperature (using a temperature sensor built into the battery). If the battery is too hot or cold, it refuses to charge it. As the battery is charged at a steady 700mA, the phone monitors the voltage, which rises steadily till the battery is full, then rises more slowly when the battery is full. At this point, the phone switches to trickle-charging, which involves switching the current on and off in short bursts, which helps prevent formation of whiskers within the cells (too technical to go into here). All the time, the phone checks the battery temperature, because if the cell gets hot, that's a sign that it is full and charging should be stopped.

In batteries listed at a nominal 3.6 volts, batteries that measure below 2.4 volts would be evidence of a bad cell, and are defective. Any more voltage than 2.4, but less than 3.0 'may accept a charge' to become functional, the problem here being, what charger is going to be applied? Many OEM built-in charging circuits will not even recognize a battery if it measures below 3.0 volts. The solution I use is to 'shock the battery' to get the chemistry to respond...So I use a 12 volt DC power supply with two leads, holding the negative power lead to the negative battery terminal, making sure to "tap" the positive lead on positive terminal of the battery for about a half second. This momentary shock will sometimes molecularly activate the chemistry to perform nominally once again.

Εγώ είχα ακούσει για 16 ώρες αρχική φόρτιση. Αλλά έκανα κάτι πολύ ποιο απλό το έβαλα να φορτίζει το βράδυ κλειστό και όταν σηκώθηκα ήταν έτοιμο. 12 ώρες φόρτιση μέχρι να ξυπνήσω:). Τώρα για τις 3 φορτίσεις και εκφορτίσεις θα το τηρήσω!

Lithium-ion is a very clean system and does not need priming as nickel-based batteries do. The 1st charge is no different to the 5th or the 50th charge. Stickers instructing to charge the battery for 8 hours or more for the first time may be a leftover from the nickel battery days.

 

Preparing new lithium-ion for use

 

Unlike nickel and lead-based batteries, a new lithium-ion pack does not need cycling through charging and discharging. Priming will make little difference because the maximum capacity of lithium-ion is available right from the beginning. Neither does a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded pack. However, a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation

 

 

 

εξάλλου, οπως θα εχετε ισως παρατηρήσει, τα κινητα ερχονται με (μισο)φορτισμενες μπαταριες απο το εργοστασιο, κι αυτο γιατι σε καμια περιπτωση οι μπαταριες λιθιου δεν πρεπει να αποφορτιστουν κατω απο συγκεκριμενα επιτρεπτα ορια. Αντε, να ξεμπερδευουμε με τους μυθους της πρωτης φορτισης και των κυκλων επαναφορτισης.
