Capcomʼs ʽLost Planet: Extreme Conditionʼ holds on to the No1 spot in the All Formats Chart for a 2nd consecutive week, while the football heavyweights of ʽPro Evolution Soccer 6ʼ and ʽFIFA 07ʼ swap places - Konamiʼs ʽPES 6ʼ up one place to No2 and EAʼs ʽFIFA 07ʼ dropping to No3.

Viva Piñata is for girls - Gates

Mincing mega geek Bill Gates has committed the ultimate faux pas - he's told Charlie Rose that Viva Piñata is for girls.

 

 

Discussing new genres, he said: "We have a thing called Viva Piñata that's for young girls, where you're tending a garden and these animals come along..."

 

He then goes on to waffle about how Xbox 360's power and connectivity allow you to "conceptualise" game ideas better than ever before.

 

So anyway, Gates clearly doesn't know much about Viva Piñata (or he probably wouldn't have cited a game that doesn't use the hard disk and doesn't need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to make his point).

 

Fortunately, we do! Because Viva Piñata is ace. A stimulating blend of creativity and management, it's also one of the funniest games on Xbox 360, and my dragonache (Flammie) has better things to do than watch CEOs bluff their way through dark interviews when he could be walking gaily through my optimally fertilised oak-laden forests of joy.

Virtua Tennis 3: Xbox 360 Version to Feature Ranked and Player Match Xbox Live Gameplay, Support 1080p

 

SEGA announced today that for the first time in franchise history, Virtua Tennis 3 on Xbox 360 will allow players to compete with gamers around the world in Ranked and Player Modes for top scores on the Leaderboard on the Xbox Live. Virtua Tennis 3 will also support 1080p resolution and a brand new VT:TV live spectator mode. An official statement said:

 

For the first time, Xbox 360 gamers can experience high-definition 1080p graphics on their console with Virtua Tennis 3. With the highest digital video standard enabled on the Xbox 360, each of the 20 tennis pros featured in Virtua Tennis 3 appear even more realistic, while the court environments deliver a newfound richness in colour and texture. The increased levels of detail can be picked out in the spectators and backgrounds, and despite the increased number of pixels on screen, the smooth gameplay mechanics and movements of the players are just as fluid as ever.

 

The online gameplay for Virtua Tennis 3 consist of a number of features set to make the most of the Xbox Live network. Players can take part in Ranked or Friendly modes, and enter Exhibition games or Tournaments in both singles and doubles matches across the Live network. The all new VT:TV real-time spectator mode allows players to view their friends or other top-ranked players compete in tournaments, adding an all new strategy in sizing up the next opponent.

 

“Virtua Tennis 3 on Xbox 360 is definitely the next generation of tennis” commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA. “Weʼre striving to create games which not only have great gameplay but also can make the very most of the Xbox 360ʼs amazing technology.”

 

“Weʼre thrilled to be able to say that Virtua Tennis 3 will be coming to Xbox 360, showcasing an online experience with Xbox Live that you wonʼt find on any other systems and spectacular 1080p graphics,” said George Peckham, general manager, global third party publishing for the Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft. “Fun and easy to pick up and play, Sega is hitting another ace with Virtua Tennis 3.”

 

Virtua Tennis 3 is scheduled for release in March 2007 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP.

Xbox 360 Disc Drive Replaced, Finally Shuts Up

Because your game console shouldn't sound like a Boeing 747.

 

No joke, Xbox 360 is a beast of a machine, especially when it comes to noise-making capabilities. You're usually alright with a movie or game running, but buzzing around menu screens can be a little irritating with an incesant humming filling the room. In any case, that seems to be a problem of the past -- if you haven't bought an Xbox 360 yet -- as production appears to have shifted to utilizing quieter disc drives by BenQ-LiteOn-Philips, reports Engadget (via Xbox Scene).

 

The new drives are apparently a little faster and more efficient at their job, too. This change very much came under the radar; while it's only being reported now, users are saying they're now finding them in machines purchased back in November. Microsoft, you sly devil.
