Tony Hawk's Project 8 No Online

 

Speaking of online play, Tony Hawk's Project 8 is built with full online capabilities for Xbox 360, including support of Live, classic two-player challenges, a new game called Walls (which plays like Snake or Tron), and up to eight-player online games. But Project 8 is not online for PlayStation 3. Not online for PS3. Only within the last three weeks has Neversoft received its PS3 beta kits, a black horizontal box about one foot wide by two feet long and two inches deep, with a slew of buttons and dials on its front deck. Neversoft is confident the PS3 version of the game will ship at launch in November, but it still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3, so it's not offering them. For a software company that's always supported the PlayStation system and was, in fact, the first developer to offer online play on PS2 with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, that's saying something. Neversoft wouldn't explain any further, but it's clear to this reporter that if Neversoft could go online with the PS3 version, it would. Neversoft General Manager Scott Pease explained, however, that the PlayStation 3 version would have special things not offered in the Xbox 360 version. He wouldn't list details, but the special additions might be cameo appearances by special celebrities or additional modes of play. We saw (but did not play) the PS3 version in motion and yes, even now it looks very much like the Xbox 360 version. Neversoft said the visuals on both games will look nearly identical.

Virtua Fighter 5: Spotted on PS3

Sega begins to release details and media on the PS3 version.

 

While Sega announced a PS3 exclusive port of Virtua Fighter 5 back at E3, all the screenshots and details we've had so far have been from the arcade version. But at long last, we're starting to see genuine PS3 materials. It all started, as things over in Japan tend to, with the latest Famitsu.

 

Housed in the latest Famitsu are four pages devoted to the PS3 version of Virtua Fighter 5. Spread across the pages are first screens from the PS3 version, showcasing all 17 characters.

 

While we can't share the screenshots with you here, the screens reveal what could be an exact port of the arcade version. We'll have to wait for high-resolution screenshots before scrutinizing for subtle differences, but just looking at the tiny Famitsu screens has us excited for next year's home release.

 

Details on new modes of play were not touched upon in Famitsu, but the magazine did reveal one news bit that should please the purists. Sega will be releasing a special joystick controller to coincide with the release of the game. The controller will make use of genuine arcade parts.

 

Sega will reportedly have a playable version of VF5 at a press briefing to be held on Friday afternoon in Tokyo

αυτα που εμαθα ειναι τα εξης:

 

πολλες εταιρειες εχουνε μπερδευτει στο θεμα online και μιλανε με τη sony. xfire και gamespy ειναι το ελαχιστο.

quazal, demonware και μερικες ακομα εδω και καιρο προσπαθουνε να στησουνε ενα θεμα να περπαταει.

 

η sony δεν λεει οχι σε καμμια, γιατι ειναι τοση πολυ η δουλεια που πρεπει να γινει, που καμια εταιρεια μονη της δεν προλαβαινει (και δεν μιλαω απλως για το launch)

 

απο οτι διαβασα, ολες προσπαθουν να στησουνε interfaces που να μιλανε με το server της sony.

αυτο σημαινει οτι κατα πασα πιθανοτητα δεν θα υπαρχει κεντρικο service οπως στο xboxlive.

 

φαινεται οτι η ΕΑ και ubi θα εχουνε οnline, μιας και εχουν δικια τους υποδομη.

τα αδυνατα-δυνατα γινονται προκειμενου να βοηθηθει η insomniac και να εχει online το resistance.

 

καποιες μικροτερες εταιρειες πιθανον να νιωσουν αδικημενες, αφου προφανως υπαρχουν δυο μετρα και δυο σταθμα. αυτο με τη σειρα του μπορει να σημαινει πολλα πραγματα και πολλες ευκαιριες.

 

οι εμπλεκομενες εταιρειες για το online μερος ειναι βασικα ολες αυτες που το θηριο που λεγεται Live Anywhere τους απειλει με εξαφανιση.

για αυτο και πιστευω οτι παρ΄ολο που ειναι σχετικα δυσκολο να συνεργαστουν τοσοι ανταγωνιστες, θα το καταφερουν γιατι αλλιως maybe there is no tommorow...

 

φαινεται πως οσοι περιμενουν μια υπηρεσια αντιστοιχη του xbox live θα απογοητευτουν τρελλα.

 

και επειδη πλεον εχουν διαρευσει διαφορες πληροφοριες απο δω κι απο κει, πιστευω πως η sony δεν εχει αλλη επιλογη παρα να ανοιξει τα χαρτια της στο τοκυο.

αλλιως τα νεα που μαθαινονται σποραδικα και απο μεσα απο τις μικροτερες εταιρειες πιο πολυ θα τη βλαψουν, παρα θα την ωφελησουν.

ειναι multiplatform εδω και καιρο exoskeletor.

 

η FROM soft. εχει ηδη κυκλοφορησει το πολυ καλο CHROMEHOUNDS αλλα και το Enchant Arms για 360.

 

το τελευταιο εμενα δεν μου αρεσει (το βρισκω χαζο και ηλιθιο) αλλα αυτοι που παιζουν JRPG's δηλωνουνε ενθουσιασμενοι, και θα βγει και αυτο για PS3.

Virtua Fighter 5

 

At a special press conference in Tokyo today, Sega let attendees play Virtua Fighter 5 on the PS3 for the very first time. I'll sum it up in two words: arcade perfect. While no VF freak like Milky or Shane, I wouldn't be able to comment on every intricacy (missing or present) in the version I played, but for all intents and purposes, this looks and plays just like the arcade game.

 

The game is looking surprisingly polished -- all the characters and stages seemed to be present and everything looks spectacular. The only complaint at this point was the loading time -- it was about 10 seconds from character select screen to the beginning of the match. It didn't feel too long, but here's hoping this will be improved as the game gets optimized. As for how much longer Sega plans to spend on polishing the game, that remains to be seen -- the company hasn't committed to a proper release date. However, based on our digging, it's sounding like a January or February release to be likely.

Virtua Fighter 5 will also be playable at the Tokyo Game Show next week, at which point some of our resident VF nuts will have some time to report their findings. In the meantime, though, check out some brand new high res screens of the game running on PS3.
