EU Referendum

The British people voted to leave the European Union in a referendum on 23 June 2016.  On 29 March, Prime Minister Theresa May wrote to European Council President, Donald Tusk, to formally notify him of the UK’s intention to leave the EU.

 

Advice for British nationals travelling and living in Europe, following the result of the EU referendum can be found here.  There will be no immediate changes in the way British people can travel, in the way our goods can move or the way our services can be sold.

Consular emergencies

This e-mail address is only monitored during normal working hours i.e. Monday – Friday, between 08.00hrs-15.00hrs, excluding public holidays.  For help and advice regarding consular emergencies out-of-hours please call +30 210 727 2600 and you will be given the option of connecting through to the Global Response Centre in London.  Examples of consular emergencies include instances of hospitalisation, detention or death of a British national overseas or instances where a British National overseas is the victim of a serious violent crime.

 

 

Passport Enquiries

All enquiries relating to applications for standard passports in Greece are now dealt by the Passport Adviceline.  Please visit the GOV.UK and British passport eligibility web pages or contact the Passport Adviceline on +44 300 222 000 for information on British passports including how you report a lost or stolen passport.  The British Embassy is no longer able to answer passport queries.  However, if you need to travel urgently and your standard passport is lost/stolen or expired, you should contact the nearest British Consulate.  In certain circumstances our staff may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document but this is not substitute to a full UK passport. Notarial and Documentary Services

With effect from 1 April 2014, Consular offices in Greece will no longer provide notarial and documentary services that can be performed by local alternative providers such as Greek Notary Publics, Greek lawyers or Citizens Bureau (KEP) offices. Services include witnessing signatures, administering oaths and certifying photocopies of documents.

 

We will continue to offer a limited number of notarial services but these will be centralised at the Consular Section of the British Embassy in Athens; British Vice-Consulates in other areas of Greece will no longer provide this function. Some of these centralised services can be provided by post; for others customers will need to attend the British Embassy in person.

Marriage Documents

Certificates of Non Impediment [CNIs] for British Nationals wishing to marry in Greece are only issued by the British Embassy in Athens.  Please follow the link getting married abroad to establish if you need one.

 

In order to facilitate British Nationals who reside outside Athens the paperwork, which must normally be submitted to the British Embassy in person to start the process for a CNI, can now be signed in person before one of our Consulates in Crete, Corfu, Rhodes or Zakynthos. Customers can therefore pay the relevant fees at the Consulate and have their Notice of Marriage displayed there without the need to travel to Athens. The CNI will then be issued by the Embassy in Athens and sent to the customer by Greek postal services, alternatively the customer can arrange for collection by a courier service. British Citizenship

The UK Border Agency | Home Office is the lead government department on nationality matters and provides information on British citizenship and other forms of British nationality.  Here you will also find information on how you can order a replacement of your UK citizenship certificate or how you can obtain proof that you have not become a British citizen. Please note that the British Embassy no longer handles applications for naturalisation, renunciation or registration as a British citizen; all applications are now handled by the UK Border Agency | Home Office direct. 

 

Applying for a UK visa

The British Embassy in Athens does not deal with visa applications or enquiries and is not able to influence the UK visa application process.

Taxation in Greece

The Greek tax regulations are complicated and differ depending upon personal circumstances. As an Embassy we are unable to become involved with tax matters, as we do not have the specific or relevant expertise. You may wish to approach an accounting office for further information and an explanation of the necessary tax to be paid in your case.  As each personal situation will be different the Greek Tax Office should also be in a position to explain the exact requirements according to their regulations. Γιατι απαντατε σε ενα μηνυμα που γραφτηκε ενα χρονο πριν?Παντως απο φιλη μου,εχασε την ταυτοτητα στη γερμανια και το εκει προξενειο ζητησε απο εδω ενα χαρτι για να μπορει να ταξιδεψει ως την ελλαδα(ταυτοχρονα ακυρωσε την ταυτοτητα)και οταν ηρθε εβγαλε καινουρια σε αστυνομικο τμημα.

Οχι οτι υπάρχει περίπτωση να έχεις θέματα, απλά τσάμπα χάνεις χρόνο και έλεγχο κτλ..

Άρα είσαι οκ είτε με ταυτότητα είτε με διαβατήριο! [η ταυτότητά σου να έχει όμως και αγγλικούς χαρακτήρες ε, μην είναι καμιά παμπάλαια]. Όταν είχα ταξιδέψει Αγγλία με ταυτότητα [πάνε 4 χρόνια περίπου] όλα κομπλέ. Στην Σκωτία μου την είχε πει μόνο ένας αστυνομικός στο αεροδρόμιο επειδή η ταυτότητά μου είναι με χειρόγραφους χαρακτήρες, ωστόσο με άφησε να περάσω.

Εγώ πάντως με κάπως ταλαιπωρημένη ταυτότητα από τις πρώτες (χειρόγραφες) πέρσι έφαγα κάνα 2ωρο+ επιπλέον στην ασφάλεια του αεροδρόμιο για επιβεβαίωση γνησιότητας. Τελικά με άφησαν να περάσω και μου είπαν να την αλλάξω αλλά δεν άξιζε γενικά την ταλαιπωρία. Και δεν ήταν σε τόσο κακή κατάσταση, τα κλασικά τσακίσματα γύρω γύρω από την μια πλευρά.

Οι χειρόγραφες ειναι no-no. Πλαστογραφούντε υποτίθεται πανεύκολα για αυτό και δεν τις θέλουν.

Εμένα η ταυτότητα ήταν 6-7 χρόνων και μου είπαν αν έχω και άλλο αποδεικτικό στοιχείο επειδή δεν μοιάζω στην φωτογραφία
