The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Toyota’s official recall portals are the primary sources for this information, but they don’t always provide exact per-model breakdowns in a single accessible format, especially for older recalls. However, I’ve compiled a detailed overview based on available data from recent recalls, focusing on major campaigns since 2020, using information from Toyota’s press releases, NHTSA, and other reliable sources. Below is a breakdown of notable Toyota recalls since 2020, organized by model and including the approximate number of vehicles affected in the U.S. where possible. Note that some recalls affect multiple models, and exact per-model splits are not always specified in the data. Where exact numbers per model are unavailable, I’ll provide the total recall figure and note the models involved. I’ve also excluded Lexus models unless they’re part of a shared recall with Toyota vehicles, as the query focuses on Toyota cars. Additionally, some recalls involve global figures, but I’ll focus on U.S.-specific numbers when available. Toyota Recalls Since 2020: Breakdown by Model 1. Camry and Camry Hybrid • 2020–2022 (Airbag Issue, OCS Sensor Short Circuit): • Issue: Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors in the front passenger seat may short-circuit, preventing proper airbag deployment. • Models Affected: 2020–2022 Camry and Camry Hybrid. • Number Affected: Part of a 1 million vehicle recall across multiple Toyota and Lexus models. Exact per-model breakdown not specified, but Camry/Camry Hybrid is a significant portion. Notes and Limitations • Data Gaps: Exact per-model breakdowns are often not provided in public sources, especially for multi-model recalls. Estimates are based on proportional distribution where possible. • Global vs. U.S. Numbers: Some sources report global figures (e.g., 1.12 million for the 2023 OCS recall), but I’ve focused on U.S.-specific numbers (~1 million for that recall). • Ongoing Recalls: The Takata airbag recall, while initiated before 2020, continued repairs into 2020+ and affects millions of older Toyota models (e.g., Corolla, RAV4, Sienna). • Verification: Owners can check specific vehicle recalls using their VIN at Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls. Recommendations For precise numbers or to confirm if a specific vehicle is affected, use the VIN lookup tool on the NHTSA or Toyota websites. If you need a deeper dive into a specific model or recall, let me know, and I can prioritize searching for additional details or focus on a particular year/model. If you’d like a chart visualizing the recall data (e.g., number of vehicles per model), please confirm, and I can generate one with the available estimates.
