s3 savage 4 major problem

I 've been given a used s3 savage 4 but i am facing a major problem. When i load up the drivers, despite the recognition of the card ny the pc, after some seconds the pc freezes and has to reboot. But when i unload the drivers and the card is recognised as a standard vga card (640x480 , 16 colors ,shit!) and works fine! I have tried both original and tweaked drivers but i see no solution.

Does anybody know how to face this very major problem? plz?

 

i tried with s3id , output :Savage 4 GT/Pro (395-398)

i downloaded the 82031w9xrowlogo from the s3graphics site but still the same problem. Pc freezes

I've seen this problem before in a no-name GeForce 2MX 400. I had been trying to solve it for 3 hours (tried everything from drivers to bios updates/tweaks). No matter what I did, the card didn't work (pc used to freeze - only worked as VGA, 16colors).

 

Finally, I returned it to the store where I bought it from, and they said that simply the card was "dead at arrival".

 

I suppose the one who gave it to you, knew about the problem and was trying to get rid of the card <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

Hopefully you didn't pay for the card...

unforgiven : No, i am just practising my english. you can reply in greek if you want to.

 

anyway, i knew about the card's problem, and the previous owner gave it to me to test it on my computer, so we could know if its a mainboard problem. i also tried to flash the cards BIOS but it doesn't seem to be compatible with the bios flasher program by s3. Its for sure an s3 savage 4. I identified the card using the s3id.exe utility downloaded from s3graphics.

 

But, i just can't understand what the problem is. Because the card seems to respond well when using the identification tool.

Τα δοκίμασα όλα αλλά απ' ότι φαίνεται η κάρτα έχει πρόβλημα. Ευχαριστώ πολύ για την βοήθεια σας.
