Τώρα διάβασα αναλυτικά για το τι ακριβώς κάνουν. Ψιλό άνθρακας ο θησαυρός.

Εντάξει, άνθρακα δέν το λές, άμα κάνει τη διαφορά που λέει. Άλλωστε εντελώς μεταξύ μας μήν μας ακούσουν και παραέξω, ο scheduler ήθελε λίγο στοργή και προδέρμ. Αφού δεν ψήνονται να βάλουν στο main tree τον Brainfuck...

Right. And that's basically how this "patch" was actually tested

originally - by doing this by hand, without actually having a patch in

hand. I told people: this seems to work really well. Mike made it work

automatically.

 

Because it's something we want to do it for all users, and for all

shells, and make sure it gets done automatically. Including for users

that have old distributions etc, and make it easy to do in one place.

And then you do it for all the other heuristics we can see easily in

the kernel. And then you do it magically without users even having to

_notice_.

Novell investors will get $6.10 a share, Attachmate, a software company owned by private-equity firms including Golden Gate Capital Corp., said today in a statement. That’s 9.1 percent more than Novell’s closing price on Nov. 19. Novell will also sell some intellectual-property assets to a group of technology companies led by Microsoft Corp. for $450 million.

Design From the Ground Up

 

xPUD is an unique Linux distribution, consisting mainly of a web browser and a media player, with a simple user interface on top. It can turn your computer into a kiosk-like station by leveraging web technologies, making surfing and watching movies as easy as pie.

Thin and Rich at the Same Time

 

It's fast, on average booting within 10 seconds (

), and it's small, too. Core image is weighing in at under 35MB, yet it still remains binary compatible with most major Linux distributions like Ubuntu or Fedora. So xPUD can not only be a great platform to deliver Web Apps, but it's also suitable for use on Netbooks or All-in-one PCs.

Basic Principles of Design

 

We're trying to achieve the following goals in this project:

 

* lightweight and fast booting

* applications for daily use

* easy-to-use user interface

 

So we create mkxpud, an image generator that extract files directly from a working Linux system. By doing so, we can keep binary compatibility with other Linux, while minimize the rootfs.

“plate” User Interface

 

Our experimental web-based user interface, plate, is a combination of Mozilla Gecko Runtime and desktop integration with the underlying Linux stack. The main features are composed of four activity-based tabs, including Home Screen, Application Menu, File Browser and a Setting Center.

 

By leverage web technologies, we can have the advantages of web application like rapidly developing and easily mash-up, also made it possible to develop a platform-independent environment.

FBI Alleged To Have Backdoored OpenBSD's IPSEC Stack

 

Aggrajag and Mortimer.CA, among others, wrote to inform us that Theo de Raadt has made public an email sent to him by Gregory Perry, who worked on the OpenBSD crypto framework a decade ago. The claim is that the FBI paid contractors to insert backdoors into OpenBSD's IPSEC stack. Mr. Perry is coming forward now that his NDA with the FBI has expired. The code was originally added ten years ago, and over that time has changed quite a bit, "so it is unclear what the true impact of these allegations are" says Mr. de Raadt. He added: "Since we had the first IPSEC stack available for free, large parts of the code are now found in many other projects/products." (Freeswan and Openswan are not based on this code.)

Merry Christmas Linux and Open source fans! A new Linux powered tablet is on it’s way!

The specs aren’t yet complete but this 10 inch multi-touch tablet running Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 has an Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz CPU, 2 Gb RAM and a 32Gb SSD hard drive. The bugs are still being worked out but initial impressions are good and boot up time is almost instant!

Although a firm launch date has yet to be set the developers hope the Ubuntu powered tablet will launch early next year. Here’s what they had to say in an exclusive interview with Gizchina:

 

“The hardware is all sorted and units are production ready at a hardware point of view. We’re just working the kinks out of the software now, mostly just brushing up the touch interface and also working on the best possible on screen keyboard display.”

 

When we asked about the spec the designers spilled a few more beans:

 

“Inside there’s an Atom CPU, 32 Gb SSD hard drive and 2Gb of RAM. The CPU is clocked at 1.66 GHZ so the unit is pretty snappy.

The screen is a 10.1 inch capacitive unit, and there’s a web cam built in to the bezel. The hardware has space for a 3G module (option) all models will have 2 x USB, WIFI, Bluetooth, HDMI out and a Micro SD card reader.

We will also offer a cover with built in keyboard.”
