Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games is best known for its RTS Supreme Commander and its action-RPG series Dungeon Siege -- so maybe it's just the natural course of evolution that the developer's newest game, Demigod, should borrow a bunch from both of those genres: It's an action/RPG/RTS hybrid, inspired partly by the popular WarCraft III mod Defense of the Ancients.

 

For those who've never tried DotA, it concentrates on two teams trying to destroy each others' bases; though rather than managing all the units or gathering resources as in a regular RTS, players each control a single Hero unit with different powers, leveling up by killing A.I. enemies around the map.

 

In Demigod, you control one of many "demigod" heroes -- some of which survive solely on the strength of their own powers, others of which thrive on building smaller units and structures of their own for support. The guy on the left in the screenshot below is one such hero, "The Rook," a former king whose spirit now animates an anthropomorphic castle. Demigod is, as you'd expect, a multiplayer game at heart, with an emphasis on co-op play. There's a single-player mode, too, though Gas Powered Games says it will serve mainly as a "training ground" for the multiplayer.

Demigod playable at PAX

 

Publisher Stardock has released the first trailer for Demigod, its upcoming "team-based action game with RTS and RPG elements" being developed by Gas Powered Games. The title will support one-on-one battles, but the game apparently shines in team play. The idea of a "team-based" RTS is still something we're wrapping our brains around; as multiplayer RTS is nothing new, but Demigod sounds like something different. For those who really want to get some hands-on time with the game, we were able to confirm the title will be at PAX (August 29-31).

Η αλήθεια είναι ότι όταν μου ανατέθηκε το preview του Demigod, δεν είμουν σίγουρος για το τί μου επεφύλασσε το συγκεκριμένο παιχνίδι. Παρόλο που ήξερα ότι από πίσω του βρισκόταν η Gas Powered Games, εταιρεία που μας πρόσφερε το εκπληκτικό Supreme Commander...

Gamestop's web site sometimes yields a few interestesting items. One of them is the official reveal of a Collector's Edition for Demigod, the upcoming action-strategy-RPG hybrid game from developer Gas Powered Games and publisher Stardock. Priced at $49.99 ($10 more than the standard version) the Collector's Edition will contain a music soundtrack CD, a poster and a pewter figurine.

 

The Gamestop post also lists the game's minimal and recommend system requirements for Demigod. We consider this info to be unofficial at this point since it didn't come directly from Gas Powered or Stardock but it might give you some idea of what kind of PC you will need to run the final game.
