If you keep up with the Japanese game scene, you'll know how hot the DS is over in Nintendo's home territory. The DS is so hot, in fact, that it wasn't just the number one selling piece of gaming hardware for the first half of 2006, but number two as well! Enterbrain, the publishing company behind the Famitsu magazines, has released sales stats for the first half of the year, covering 12/26/2005 to 6/25/2006. Three portable systems topped hardware sales for the period. DS Lite took the top spot, with the standard DS coming in second. Together, the two DS variations reached sales of 3.9 million units, far above the third place PSP, which managed 1 million. Fueled by DS sales, game hardware sales topped 101.9 billion yen for the period, a 39.4% increase from the same period last year. Software and hardware together, the home console market topped 276.8 billion yen, 33.6% above the same period last year. The DS hasn't slowed down one bit following the June 25 cutoff for inclusion in the Enterbrain report. With Nintendo aiming to hit the 10 million shipped mark in a couple of months, we expect the report for the second half of 2006 to be just as positive. Ο λόγος για το Settlers, το οποίο θα κυκλοφορήσει από την Ubisoft προς το τέλος της χρονιάς για το Nintendo DS, όπως ανακοίνωσε η εταιρία ανάπτυξης Blue Byte. Η ιστορία θα ξεκινάει με ένα πλοίο του στρατού της Ρουμανίας να φτάνει σε ένα ακατοίκητο νησί και ο σκοπός του παίκτη θα είναι (όπως μπορεί να φανταστεί ο καθένας) να δημιουργήσει έναν πολιτισμό, να κατακτήσει την περιοχή και να καταφέρει να αμυνθεί σωστά σε όποια επίθεση λάβει χώρα. Ο τίτλος σύμφωνα με την ομάδα προγραμματισμού θα αξιοποιεί την οθόνη αφής του συστήματος για τις εντολές προς τις μονάδες και θα περιλαμβάνει δύο campaigns (Roman και World) και ένα free mode, όπου ο παίκτης θα μπορεί να αντιμετωπίσει την CPU. Οι διαθέσιμες εργασίες για τις μονάδες θα φτάνουν τις 30, θα υπάρχουν έξι είδη στρατιωτικών μονάδων και τέσσερις φυλές, οι Romans, Vikings, Nubians και Asians. It does a great job offering a fantastic, energetic old-school challenge that keeps the classic gaming style alive. Though the market's moved on to 3D platformers which, admittedly, affords developers more opportunity for variety in their designs, this game does evolves the original Sonic style wonderfully by combining contemporary technology with fresh and new gameplay mechanics. Πρώτο παράδειγμα το Age of Empires. Να προσθέσω μερικές επίσημες screenshots της UBI: Το χάρτη και το μενού μπορείς να το εναλλάξεις μεταξύ των δύο οθονών με το πάτημα του stylus.
