PSP Outsells Wii in Japan

 

Nintendo has had a firm hold of the Japanese gaming market almost non-stop since the launch of the Wii in November, 2006. The only true competition to the Wiiʼs dominance at the top of Japanese sales has come from another Nintendo product, the DS. But now Nintendoʼs 1-2 combo has been broken by Sony, as its PSP handheld has outsold the Wii.

Δεν έχω τοποθετήσει ακόμα custom fw,μήπως γνωρίζετε κάποιο τρόπο να κατεβάσω παιχνίδια απευθείας στο psp από κάποιο site χωρίς να πειράξω το psp;

Στο official site μπορεις να κατεβασεις καποια ντεμο.Για ολοκληρα παιχνιδια χωρις customed sw δεν παιζει

Εγω μαλλον πελαγωσα και μπερδευτηκα με ολα αυτα που διαβασα στο psp gr.Μιας και σκεφτομαι να το αγορασω αλλα τα ψιλοεχασα.

Αλλα οντως εχει τα παντα και σε βοηθαει αρκετα.

Skype Confirmed for PSP

Firmware update expected later this month.

 

Sony leaked their own surprise late last week when a page for the Consumer Electronics Show slipped word of Skype support coming to the PSP. The popular Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VOIP) service is finding its way into several cell phones, and with a mic to plug into your PlayStation Portable the news hinted at phone calls from anywhere with a WiFi hot spot.

 

Today, Gamasutra reports that the news is indeed true, and Sony has officially announced the service along with outlining some details. The PlayStation Portable itself will manage all of the Skype features straight from the XMB, after a firmware update planned for later this month. The new icon will allow users to bring their Skype contact information into the PSP, view their contacts, add new ones, and see who's available to talk. An additional charge with "Skype credit" will let users make calls to landlines and mobile phones, or to receive calls from either.

 

A PlayStation Phone? Not quite, but it's a pretty elegant solution with a trusted and established service.

Sony Bringing Blu-ray to PSP, Sort Of

Sony reveals new details for BD-Live Interactivity.

 

Sony kicked off its CES conference today with some big news highlighting several planned BD-Live interactive features coming to Blu-ray in 2008. During an interactive demo on the show floor, Sony revealed a series of interactive features currently planned for the BD-Live networking capabilities.

 

The first feature previewed was one that would allow viewers to send ringtones to their personal mobile phones, including content from the movie itself. Viewers could extract lines of dialogue from the movie or other audio clips.

 

More excitingly revealed was that Sony is planning select Blu-ray titles that will include a version of the film encoded for the PSP, thus making the film portable. However, Sony didn't announce a planned release date or titles that will include this new feature.

Sony confirms not enough memory on PSP phat for Skype

Sony announced at CES today that Skype will be made available for the PSP Slim & Light. By adding the Skype logo to the XMB via a firmware update, users will be able to access full Skype voice functionality including the use of Skype Out / Skype In, as well as access to the account admin functions.

 

Before you ask, the reason Skype will only work on the PSP Slim & Light (and not the original model) is due to memory constraints. The original PSP (PSP-1000) has 32MB of memory, whereas the newer Slim & Light model (PSP-2000) has 64MB. Nick Sharples had the following to say.

 

“Although PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 are identical in basic functions, there are differences in hardware specifications to some extent and, for that reason, PSP-2000 may differ in features from PSP-1000. We had studied the possibility of supporting Skype with PSP-1000 but had to give it up because of the smaller size of main memory on PSP-1000 series.”

CES 2008: Hands on with Skype for PSP

 

 

As promised, I popped in to the Sony CES booth to check out the new PSP Skype software that was leaked last week and got a bit of hands on time.

 

Bad news first: it is only going to be available for Slim and Lite PSP models (2000 series). It is arriving via a free firmware upgrade, so itʼs not clear how other PSP models will be prevented from having it, but the Sony rep informed me that only the 2000s with their enhanced RAM and processing power are able to run the system.

 

To all extents and purposes this is the complete Skype package. You can call anyone on your contacts list, no matter if they are on another PSP, a PC, or at the end of a normal phone. For this latter option, you will of course need to purchase Skype Out credit, but that will be possible from within PSP Skype itself.

Επισης να ενημερωσουμε οτι και οι noobz team εβγαλαν την δικια τους εκδοση Voip δυνατοτητων για το psp (slim και fat).

Το προγραμμα ειναι homebrew και αναμενονται στο μελλον πολλες βελτιωσεις του αφου ακομα ειναι σε beta εκδοση!

Ετσι για να μην μας λεει η $ony οτι δεν φτανουν τα 32 Mb μνημης!

Α'ι' σιχτηρ $ony και καλα να αγορασουμε το slim....
